PREAMBLE | RIGHT WING P.C.: SAME CRAP, DIFFERENT BUCKET

At it's core, political correctness seeks to impose a group's sensitivities on everyone else. Typically, this involves bestowing special status or privileges on so-called "oppressed" groups (they're called protected minorities in political hackese). Federal and state civil rights laws, the Americans With Disabilities Act, Title IX and hiring quotas are just a few examples of government-based political correctness.

• Speech codes are imposed.

• Victim groups enjoy lower entrance standards.

• Schools bestow victim-group degrees in Black, Chicano, Womens'
  and Gay Studies.

• History is rewritten to appease victim-group sensitivities.

• Western Culture is demonized, if it's presented at all.

• Virtually all course material is reworked to present a radical leftist view of the
   world.

• Proof of global warming.

• The dangers of secondhand smoke.

• Exaggerating the likelihood of incurring AIDS through heterosexual coupling.

What I've just described is traditional, or Left-Wing political correctness...also called multiculturalism. When you hear someone discussing political correctness, this is the sort of behavior they're citing.

There is another face of political correctness, one imposed by those very individuals who are the most vocal critics of left-wing political correctness. Right-wing political correctness also entails imposing a group's sensitivities on everyone else. In his case, the group imposing their sensitivities is the God Squad. This version of political correctness is commonly called censorship, but it also entails various other intrusions upon the inalienable rights of sovereign individuals. Like its left-wing twin, right-wing political correctness seeks to invoke the power of the government to compel the correct behavior from sovereign individuals.

• Allegedly offensive television shows like Boston Public, are victimized by organized
  campaigns to get the FCC to take them off the air.

• The Harry Potter books are accused of teaching Satanism and witchcraft to
   children, so they must be banished from government schools.
    

• Evolution a.k.a. Darwinism is, routinely, removed or drastically de-emphasized
   in government schools. Creationism (sometimes called Intelligent Design) is
   promoted as a replacement for or equal to Evolution.

• Gay couples are denied the rights and privileges enjoyed by married
   heterosexual couples, based, entirely, on god squad supernaturalism.

• So called "community standards" are used to impose a sex-phobic,
  ultra-narrow window of acceptability on books, magazines, records, movies,
  music albums, radio shows and artistic endeavors, thus repealing the free
  speech rights of those who create or avail themselves this material.

• Consenting adults are criminalized for victimless crimes as: prostitution;
  growing or using a harmless drug like pot; presenting such adult entertainment
  as strip shows, lap dances and the like.

The mindset behind this type of political correctness still involves oppression, but it's slightly more convoluted than its Left-Wing brother. A hypersensitive Right-Wingnut is oppressed by the fact that certain "indecent" television shows, books, magazines, music albums, movies, radio shows, school curricula, or consenting adult behaviors exist. Even if they are insulated from direct contact with any of the "offensive" items, knowing that these things still exist oppresses them. The only solution is to abolish everything that scandalizes them. These tragic victims can't be freed from their oppression, until each offending item ceases to exist. After that, it's free sailing on the placid waters called 'moral purity', until the next offending item strays onto their indecency radar.

The P.C. twins, P.C. left and P.C. right, are opposite sides of the same coin...opposite sides, but equal: equally intolerable. Both seek to control what everyone else thinks, says, reads. Both share the view that the controlling group is the only one allowed to decide which elements of American culture are suitable for everyone and which elements need to be "terminated". If there's a difference between the P.C. twins, it might be this: P.C. left is better at it, more organized about it, and much more ambitious in setting, then achieving its ultimate goals. This doesn't make P.C. right more acceptable; it simply recognizes that it's virulent twin, P.C. left, is more dangerous.
